How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other pointers, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still remaining comfortable. Whenever possible, utilize supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to untimely system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with normal, annual AC maintenance is so essential. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a deeper look to catch little problems before they become major breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
