How Can I Improve My Indoor Air Quality?

Air Quality

The EPA has found out that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air in highly industrialized cities. Indoor air is also more stale. While we’d all like to be able to open the windows and let in some fresh air, that’s not always reasonable, especially this winter. There are a few easy things you can do to increase your indoor air quality and live in a healthier home environment.

Keep Your Home Clean

A vacuum with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter, good suction and rotating brushes is a great investment in the air quality of your home. Vacuuming once a week with a HEPA-certified vacuum should decrease the dust and allergens collected in your carpets and upholstered furniture.

There are some contaminants that get around your vacuum no matter how clean you keep your home. If you or someone in your home has allergies, a PureAir™ Air Purification System may be just what you need. This system is a whole-home solution that filters out particles and odors, and destroys chemical vapors – all things that may severely affect respiratory issues.

Air Purifying Plants

Plants are a natural way to purify your air and all plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. In addition, there are some plants that have been found to also destroy harmful toxins such as: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

If you’d like to add an air purifying plant to your home, you can find a list of those plants by reading the NASA Clean Air Study. If you have pets, you’ll want to check and be sure any plants you’re bringing in to your home are not harmful to them if they want to give them a taste test.

Keep Your Home Ventilated

Modern homes are designed to keep outdoor air out of your home in order to retain energy efficiency. This decreased ventilation results in a build up of air pollutants indoors. While it’s easy to go ahead and crack a window, that may not be enough, which is why we carry a few different ventilation products to help improve your indoor air quality and keep your home’s air clean and fresh.
